The traditional clothing of Seychelles took influence from European attire during the colonial era. It consists of the ‘kazak’, a waist-length blouse with long sleeves that gained popularity during the late 1800s and the ‘penwar’ skirt, a lengthy outer garment for women, often crafted from sheer materials like chiffon or other translucent fabrics.

Over the years, Seychelles’ traditional clothing has evolved to better adjust to the tropical climate and using more economical fabrics such as cotton, with floral and tropical patterns to highlight the vibrant and colorful culture of the islands. Today, it is mostly worn during official events both locally and internationally.
